Mike was an incredible resource for Stone Canyon as he was able to seamlessly move between the shop floor and the board room translating the benefits of his Lean programs into bottom-line results. Simplifying the complex nature of his work to non-operators is perhaps his greatest skill set. Mike’s passion for his work showed up in every one of his interactions.
The US Joint Strike Fighter Program Office selected Advanced Lean Master Mike Wall to guide the application of Lean Thinking to Maintenance and Sustainment processes of the F35 because he saved the Royal Air Force over $100 million in two years on maintenance procedures for the Harrier Fighter Bomber.
There are so few Lean practitioners out there that fully understand what it takes to create a Lean Thinking culture. Mike has consistently demonstrated he understands and has provided our leadership the guidance necessary to ensure our success. I cannot imagine this journey without him.
Mike assisted with our Lean start-up activities at a large defense intermediate level maintenance and contract support activity. I found him to be an innovative thinker with an impressive grasp of process improvement methodologies. He is an expert level facilitator and has an impressive ability to achieve buy-in and results with diverse and sometimes uncooperative groups.
Mike’s leadership and passion for people accompanied with his intimate knowledge and deep experience with Continuous Improvement and Lean Principles has given us the ability to begin transforming our business, and our culture. He is able to quickly assess our businesses and connect with people in a way that allows them not only to understand and apply the concepts, but become passionate about CI and buy in to the journey we’re on together.
The work that I did with Mike bringing Lean to US Army Material Command is the most significant contribution to society that I have made in my life. It dramatically changed the way that the Army performs all functions at the depots for much faster response and billions of dollars lower cost. Mike is a unique talent in being able to see what is possible and connect with people to make it happen at all levels of an organization.
A number of Rapid Improvement Events during the past five years at Robins Air Force Base enabled personnel to trim the average overhaul cycle time for C-5 aircraft from 339 days to less than 180, and they’re heading for 120. We’re expanding into knowledge and transactional work.
Mike cleared the confusion in our pursuit of Lean Manufacturing. His thorough and down to earth approach was a good match to our people. We certainly recommend him to any organization desiring to increase their efficiencies, lower costs, and at the same time increase the engagement of their entire workforce.
In over twenty years of implementing continuous improvement processes in Navy Shipyards I’ve never seen anything take hold and stick as quickly as this has, or with the depth and breadth of this implementation effort. The results have far exceeded anything we’ve tried in the past.
